Now we can only get her to sleep by walking around with her in her car seat. I cannot wait for the day when she will finally sleep in a crib with no tricks attached.
Oh the things we do. I use to crawl in the crib with Bailey! Don't think your doing anything wrong, but I can't even tell you all the tricks I did with Bailey to get her to bed at night, and how much I use to wake up but at 9 months I finally gave up on all the tricks I had with her and the way long night time rituals. I was tired and I was still getting up with her at night twice! I knew the older she got the harder it would be to get her to fall asleep on her own and stay asleep all night. So I got the book Healthy Sleep habits happy child. Honestly you don't need to read it if you don't want it. It can be helpful if your up to it. And really I only read the certain sections that pertained to us. Not cover to cover.
Basically all I learned was that babies need to learn to fall asleep on there own. It's a learned skill not something they are born with. Everybody wakes up at night but it's learning how to get yourself back to sleep is the thing they need to learn. You pretty much just have to let them cry it out. How long is up to you, but if you are going to do it commit to it because if you let them cry 5 minutes or 10 or even 20 and give up all you are doing is teaching them that if they just cry long enough Mom will come get me. As long as they are fed, clean diaper and not sick, crying it out really is ok. It took me to do this until she was 9 months because I was a sissy! I couldn't let her cry, but let me tell you how happy I am that I did. It took her only 2 to 3 nights to get her to fall asleep on her own and also sleep through the night. The first night she cried 45 minutes and I cleaned my entire house at 11 pm at night because I couldn't sit and listen to it or I knew I would go in there. The 2nd and 3rd nights were much shorter 10 minutes or so. I wasn't about to let her run my sleeping schedule because I just need my sleep so I knew I had to do it. She is an amazing sleeper now and my friends hate me for it. She goes to bed at 8:30 every night and falls asleep on her own in her crib, then she sleeps until atleast 8:30 the next morning and wakes up as happy as can be, talking and having conversations with herself. She only takes one nap now but it's 3 to 4 hours. So basically she is sleeping just as much when she was 9 months getting 2 naps then she is now at 19 months. She just knows if she crys I'm not coming in after her. Now when she is sick that's a totally different story, but she know's she can't milk it with me.
Sorry this is soooooooo long, but I just totally believe in getting them to sleep on there own earlier then later, because I almost waited to late. It saved my sanity though!
OH and they say keep the same bedtime routine. But the book says if you give them a bath one night do it every night. But I don't. In the summer I bathe bailey almost every day because she gets dirty outside, but she doesn't need a bath everyday and I don't give her one everyday. But everything else we do the same every night.
Get new diaper, pj's, and whatever she sleeps with, binki, blanket and her piggy. We'll read books as a family, then she watches Curious George. It is her favorite thing and she requests it every night so it just became apart of our bedtime. As soon as it is over we say prayers and lay her in her crib, walk out. She doesn't make a fuss. It's fabulous. Now I've had to let her cry it out twice. The first time she was 9 months, then around 15 months she got separation anxiety and it's like we had to start all over but again it was worth it. Sorry, I will now shut my mouth!

Sometimes I have to lean my entire body over the crib so she can hold on to my hair to get herself to go back to sleep. It's not awesome.
